In pre-colonial Congo and still, in some parts of Congo, Lokole was a slit drum used for mass communications between neighboring communities, villages, or camps. Through this drum, the communities were informed of funerals, birthdays, dangers, invasions, wars, festivals, and gatherings. Through the pictural portrayal of this traditional instrument, the artist is pursuing the celebration of our authentic customary values in a very sentimental mood.
